Shoulder pain is typically caused by breaks or fractures, arthritis, instability or tendon tears and inflammation. After taking a thorough medical history and performing an examination of the area, proper treatment can be assessed and implemented. Tests that may be used to make a diagnosis include: x-rays, MRIs, CT scans, arthrogram and arthroscopy. In certain cases rest and physical therapy may be enough to alleviate symptoms. In other cases surgery may be required to restore full or partial functionality.

Primary Shoulder Procedures

Rotator Cuff Surgery Rotator cuff surgery is performed to repair torn tendons in the shoulder. The procedure may be performed using a standard incision or using smaller, less invasive ones and shoulder arthroscopy.

Stabilization When ligaments, joints or the labrum experience tears, strains, or detachment, shoulder stabilization may be necessary. Treatment can include both surgical and non-surgical options depending on the severity of the injury.

Total Shoulder Replacement Total shoulder replacement involves removing both bone and joints and replacing them with prosthetics in order to alleviate pain and return full or partial range of motion to the patient.

Other Procedures

Joint Reconstruction Shoulder joint reconstruction typically involves the removal of damaged parts in order to be replaced by a metal prosthesis. This will help to return full or partial range of motion to the affected area.

Arthroscopy Arthroscopy involves the use of a small incision and special camera which allows your doctor to visualize the affected area. This will allow the surgeon to determine the amount or type of surgery that may be needed.
